In a significant move to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of Maldives, the President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has constituted “The National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research.” Under the authority of Article 116 of the Constitution of Maldives, this new agency falls under the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage.
The primary objective of the National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research is to create and revive knowledge related to the Dhivehi language, history, culture, heritage, customs, and nationalism. The Government has initiated this effort to ensure the preservation and promotion of the unique identity and heritage of Maldivians.
Key responsibilities of the institute include reviving the spirit of Dhivehi identity among the people and translating works written in various languages related to Dhivehi nationality. This proactive step aligns with the broader vision of fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Maldivian cultural roots.
The National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research is poised to play a crucial role in consolidating and disseminating knowledge about Maldives’ rich cultural tapestry, contributing to the nation’s cultural resilience and pride.
As the institute embarks on its mission, it symbolizes a commitment to safeguarding the cultural legacy of Maldives for future generations and reinforcing the importance of preserving the nation’s identity in the face of globalization.
