In the primary voting held yesterday, several prominent figures, including Former Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon, faced disappointment as they failed to secure the Progressive Congress Coalition ticket in the primary elections held to select candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections. The primary, conducted on the Progressive Congress ticket, saw 283 candidates competing in 73 constituencies, with 71,597 eligible voters participating.

Dunya Maumoon, a distinguished political figure, embarked on an extensive campaign in the Hulhumale Dhekunu constituency. Her daily interactions with voters from diverse backgrounds exemplified a hands-on and dedicated approach to grassroots engagement. Through this effort, she demonstrated a commitment to understanding the concerns and aspirations of the people she aimed to represent.

The primary results also revealed that former MPs Dr. Anara Naeem, a religious scholar, and Mohammed Waheed (commonly known as lawyer Waddey) were unsuccessful in their bid for candidacy. A total of 71,597 eligible voters exercised their democratic right to participate in the primary, underscoring the engagement of the electorate in the candidate selection process.
