President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held official bilateral talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Male’, followed by the formal exchange of two key Memoranda of Understanding on defence cooperation and Islamic affairs.
The pacts set up structured frameworks for joint security initiatives, bilateral defence exchanges, and closer cooperation on Islamic education and religious administration. The signing ceremony capped off high-level discussions aimed at boosting trade, investment, and strategic partnerships, building on the 58-year diplomatic relationship between the Maldives and Malaysia.
The Malaysian Prime Minister was accorded a formal ceremonial welcome at Republic Square upon his arrival for the State Visit. President Muizzu greeted Prime Minister Anwar before the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) presented a 21-gun salute, accompanied by an MNDF Guard of Honour inspection and cultural performances. Senior government officials and delegates from both nations were introduced prior to the bilateral talks.
Beyond defence and religious affairs, the two leaders reviewed broader bilateral cooperation and agreed to maintain close alignment on key international platforms.
