In a serene and harmonious prelude to the global celebrations, the Maldives marked the 10th International Yoga Day today. In a refreshing change from previous years, this year’s event unfolded smoothly, free from disturbances, underscoring the unifying power of yoga.
High Commissioner Munu Mahawar, in his welcoming address, highlighted the transcendent nature of yoga, noting that it bridges cultures and borders, bringing people together in a shared journey towards better health, inner peace, and harmony. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” resonated deeply with participants.
The Indian High Commission and the Indian Cultural Center in the Maldives organized the event, drawing numerous yoga enthusiasts to join High Commissioner Mahawar in Hulhumale’. They followed the common yoga protocol, embodying the event’s spirit of unity. High Commissioner Mahawar expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Maldivian attendees, emphasizing the spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect that defined the event.
The Maldives wasn’t alone in its early celebration. In the United Kingdom, the High Commission of India hosted a vibrant yoga event at Trafalgar Square, attracting over 700 participants. This gathering, held ahead of the official International Yoga Day, showcased the widespread appeal and universal nature of yoga.
Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing in India for tomorrow’s grand celebrations. From Delhi to Srinagar, and from Washington to London, the world is gearing up for the June 21 festivities. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to perform yoga with over 7,000 participants on the banks of the picturesque Dal Lake in Srinagar, according to PTI.
As the world unites to celebrate International Yoga Day, the message is clear: yoga is more than a physical exercise. It is a powerful tool for fostering global unity, promoting health, and achieving inner peace. This year’s celebrations, especially in the Maldives, are a testament to yoga’s enduring and universal appeal.
