In response to the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) ruling, the Attorney General’s Office has appointed Dr. Mohamed Munawwar to lead legal efforts. The decision pertains to the forfeiture of a substantial part of the Southern Sea within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The statement today from the Attorney General’s Office highlighted the strategic appointment of former Attorney-General Dr. Mohamed Munawwar, renowned for his expertise in maritime law. Additionally, a King’s Counsel and a Maltese maritime law expert have been enlisted to provide valuable legal counsel on this complex matter.
Former Attorney General Dr. Munawwar will play a pivotal role in charting the government’s response to reclaim the lost portion of the Maldives’ sea area.
