In a significant move towards fostering women entrepreneurship, Social and Family Development Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham announced a substantial MVR 100 million loan allocation for women entrepreneurs. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the “Hiyala Weekend Market,” a dedicated platform for women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products during the weekends.
Minister Aishath Shiham highlighted that supporting women entrepreneurs aligns with a commitment made by President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu. The introduction of the weekend market is seen as a commendable initiative to empower women entrepreneurs and provide them with an avenue to flourish.
“This initiative not only benefits women entrepreneurs individually but also paves the way for their families to prosper and contributes to the overall betterment of society,” emphasized Minister Aishath Shiham.
She pointed out that international research indicates that promoting women entrepreneurship is a crucial factor for ensuring a happy and dignified life for women, reflecting positively on the well-being of entire families. Emphasizing the government’s belief in the importance of empowering women, Minister Aishath Shiham disclosed that the government has decided to disburse a substantial MVR 100 million in the form of loans, with specific details to be announced soon.
As part of the government’s 100-day roadmap to encourage women entrepreneurs, the “Hiyala Weekend Market” has been initiated at the Hulhumale phase one container park area. The weekend market will be operational every weekend from 4 PM to 11 PM, providing a dedicated space for women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products, thereby fostering economic empowerment and independence.
