Conflicting reports have emerged regarding an alleged shark attack on a Russian tourist vacationing in the Maldives, with local authorities expressing doubt about the veracity of the claims.

According to Telegram channels, a Russian man staying on Noonu Atoll was attacked by a shark. The man required brief hospitalization for a leg injury.

Further investigation painted an uncertain picture. Sara, a spokesperson for the Resort, where the alleged victim was reportedly staying, stated that no such shark attack had been reported at the resort.

Manadhoo, a nearby island where the tourist was taken for treatment on Sunday, provided additional context. The island hospital official said the guest’s injuries were not definitively linked to a shark attack. The official described the damage as “minor” and said the cause was unclear, with the possibility of it being from a sharp coral-like object.

The Manadhoo police station also stated that no such incident had been reported to them.

The conflicting accounts have left authorities skeptical about the veracity of the initial reports of a shark attack. Tourism is a crucial industry for the island nation, and officials are keen to maintain the country’s reputation as a safe and attractive destination for travelers.
