MALE’, Maldives — The Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) marked its 20th anniversary with a celebratory run in Hulhumale’s Central Park, a nod to its founding as the nation’s first registered political party after the 2003 reforms. The event opened with a ceremony spotlighting MDP’s contributions—community services and development initiatives that have shaped its legacy. Roughly 300 participants, including a notable contingent of women from the party’s base, joined the run. Former President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih, former Vice President Faisal Naseem, and Chairman Fayyaz Ismail attended, lending weight to the occasion. The race began in Hulhumale’ but plans to cover every island in the Maldives, a symbolic lap for a party boasting over 40,000 members and deep pride in its history.
