President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday inspected the ongoing second phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu Development Project, visiting the section near the fish market on the northern side of the capital.
The President was accompanied by the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muthalib, who briefed him on the progress of the works.
The second segment of the project covers the stretch from the fish market to the northern harbour. The road is being widened, paved and upgraded with modern infrastructure, including drainage systems, to ease traffic flow and improve safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.
According to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, the widening and tarring of the road from the official jetty to the fish market is scheduled for completion before Ramadan.
The project, contracted to MTCC on 9 April 2025, is now under active development. Officials say the upgraded road will meet modern standards, with improved drainage, expanded lanes and smoother traffic circulation.
The broader project includes rebuilding the road between the market and the official jetty near Jumhooree Maidhaan, dredging parts of the shoreline and expanding the route into a four‑lane corridor. The first section of the upgraded road was opened to the public in December.
Government officials say the redevelopment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu — one of the capital’s most heavily used thoroughfares — is a central component of the administration’s efforts to modernise urban infrastructure and reduce congestion in Malé.
