14 Percent Vote in First Two Hours as Polling Remains Peaceful Nationwide

Within the first two hours of polling, 41,000 people — around 14 percent of eligible voters — had cast their ballots, according to the Election Commission.

Police said voting is proceeding peacefully across the country and no clashes have been reported so far. Officers have been deployed throughout the atolls to ensure the safe conduct of the local council elections, the Women’s Development Committee elections and the referendum.
