The polling time for today’s three votes has been extended until 5pm, the Election Commission has announced.

The EC said the decision was made due to the ongoing heat wave, which had initially kept turnout low during the early afternoon. As temperatures eased later in the day, the number of people arriving to vote increased sharply, leading to longer queues at many polling stations.

The commission noted that it had already announced yesterday that polling hours could be extended if there were no natural disasters.

According to the latest figures released by the EC, 44.75 percent of eligible voters had cast their ballots by 2pm, while 55.25 percent had not yet voted. However, as the original 4pm closing time approached, queues grew significantly across the country.
