MALE,’  – Students looking to pursue technical and vocational training have just four days remaining to submit their applications for the Malé Vocational High School. The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has confirmed that the final deadline for entries is July 2, 2026.

This intake marks the second cohort for the school, which has quickly established itself as a vital pathway for students seeking practical, industry-aligned education alongside their core secondary curriculum. The inaugural batch is currently serving 60 students across five specialised fields.

A Focus on Practical Skills

Classes for the Vocational High School are held at a dedicated facility within the Maldives Polytechnic, providing students with access to technical infrastructure. The school offers two-year courses that culminate in a Level 4 certificate, a qualification recognised by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) as a foundation for pursuing higher-level diplomas or degrees at universities.

The current curriculum features a diverse range of disciplines, including:

  • Photography
    Information Technology (IT)
    Architecture
    Electrical Engineering
    Small Business Management

In addition to these vocational subjects, students are required to complete mandatory secondary education modules in Dhivehi and Islam, ensuring a well-rounded academic foundation.

Expanding Educational Pathways

The Ministry has previously stated that integrating vocational training into the secondary education framework is a key pillar of its national development strategy. The long-term objective of this initiative is to provide vocational pathways for up to 500 students, equipping them with the technical proficiency required to meet the demands of the modern Maldivian labour market.

Interested applicants are encouraged to finalise their submissions through the Ministry’s official portal before the July 2 cutoff.
