Maldives and China Pledge to Deepen Ties in High-Level Tianjin Talks

TIANJIN, China — President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with President Xi Jinping on Sunday at the Tianjin Yingbin Hotel, in a summit aimed at bolstering the already robust ties between the two nations. In a warm exchange, President Xi welcomed his Maldivian counterpart, emphasizing the importance of the visit in fortifying the longstanding relationship between Beijing and Malé.

President Dr. Muizzu, making his second official trip to China, expressed gratitude for the hospitality and underscored his enthusiasm for the deepening partnership.The leaders focused on expanding cooperation in critical areas, including economic development, trade, investment, security, and cultural exchanges.

President Xi reiterated China’s commitment to supporting the Maldives’ national development objectives, pledging continued collaboration under the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership (2024–2028). Both leaders vowed to elevate bilateral relations, prioritizing mutual interests and practical outcomes.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to advance the strategic partnership, signaling a new chapter in China-Maldives relations as both nations navigate a complex global landscape.
