The Maldives Airports Company has announced the successful departure of all Hajj pilgrims scheduled to travel this year, with the third and final group leaving today.
MACL said the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Culture, Maldives Hajj Corporation and other relevant agencies. The company said preparations were planned and executed in an orderly manner, with management, passenger services, terminal and security staff all involved in the arrangements.
Facilities provided for departing pilgrims included prayers at the waterfront building, waiting areas for pilgrims and their families at the former domestic terminal, drinking water and ablution facilities.
This year’s Hajj delegation is being led by Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed. The head of the Supreme Council of Islamic Fatwa, Ilyas Hussain, is also accompanying the pilgrims.
It is an annual tradition in the Maldives for a senior government figure to be appointed as head of the Hajj pilgrims. MACL thanked all those who assisted with the departure arrangements this year.
