Maldives Deputy Speaker Attends China-South Asia Exposition in Kunming

KUNMING, China — Ahmed Nazim, the deputy speaker of the People’s Majlis, met with Liu Xiaokai, chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Yunnan Provincial Committee, in Kunming today. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 9th China-South Asia Exposition and the 6th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum, which runs from June 17 to 21.

Nazim is leading a delegation of four other Maldivian parliamentarians to the event, where he is scheduled to address the forum. The visit, fully funded by the Chinese government, underscores growing ties between Beijing and the Male’.

The exposition aims to foster trade and cooperation between China and South Asian countries, with discussions focusing on economic development, connectivity, and regional partnerships. Nazim’s participation highlights the Maldives’ interest in deepening economic engagement with China, a key investor in the country’s infrastructure projects.
