MALE’ — The Maldives Police Service is planning a 15-storey office and accommodation complex at Iskandhar Koshi, their base on Amini Magu opposite Maafannu Stadium, and has opened bidding for a contractor to design, build and finance the project.
The tower will house police departmental offices on floors four through ten, an accommodation block of between 80 and 100 beds on floors eleven to fifteen, and a medical facility on the third floor. The accommodation will be built to a standard that can receive international guests and visitors. The lower floors will be given over almost entirely to parking, with space for vehicles and motorcycles across the basement, first and second floors.
The project will be delivered on a design-and-build basis, with the winning contractor responsible for both design and construction. The financing model requires the contractor to fund construction upfront, with the state repaying the costs after completion, an arrangement the government has used on several recent infrastructure projects to avoid immediate pressure on public finances.
Interested companies must register for the bid before 1 July. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Iskandhar Koshi currently operates from an existing office building on the same site. The new tower, if built to plan, would give the police service a significantly larger and more consolidated presence in the capital.
