The Ministry of Education has announced that private candidates in the Maldives will once again be able to sit for A‑Level examinations in the May–June window. The decision reverses a shift made in 2020, when the exam cycle was moved to October and November as part of a broader academic‑year overhaul.
Officials said the change was prompted by repeated requests from students and parents. With the May–June series discontinued, candidates who wished to take the ADEXCEL A‑Level exams earlier had been forced to sit abroad, often at a cost exceeding 30,000 rufiyaa.
The ministry said the May–June session will now be offered locally for private candidates beginning this year. The Department of Public Examinations will release detailed information on the process starting on the fourth of this month.
Students have long argued that the October–November schedule leaves little room for improvement. Poor results often mean waiting a full year to resit exams. That delay affects scholarship eligibility, particularly for students aiming for top‑ten rankings.
The ministry said the reinstated session is intended to ease those pressures and provide more flexibility for students preparing for higher education.
