Maldivian Relief Group Expands Flood Aid Operations in Bangladesh

MALE’, — A Maldivian humanitarian organisation has widened its emergency response operations in south-eastern Bangladesh, delivering essential provisions to communities devastated by recent severe monsoon flooding.

The NGO, the International Aid Campaign (IAC), expanded its relief efforts on Thursday by distributing 300 food packages during the second day of its latest deployment. Operatives initiated the distribution drive on 22 July at the S.M. Para Girls’ Madrasa grounds in Cox’s Bazar Sadar.

Local authorities, including Bangladeshi Member of Parliament Lutfur Rahman Kajol and Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tahmina Akter, oversaw the operations, providing administrative support to ensure the smooth delivery of aid to affected families across Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Ramu, and Eidgaon.

Monsoon torrents have inundated seven south-eastern districts in Bangladesh—Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj.

According to emergency reports:

• 44 fatalities have been confirmed across the affected districts to date.
• Over one million people have been directly impacted by rising floodwaters.
• 267,918 families remain isolated, suffering acute shortages of clean drinking water and basic food supplies.

The IAC confirmed that alongside its Bangladeshi operations, it continues to manage concurrent emergency relief campaigns for communities affected by seasonal flooding in Afghanistan.

The organisation has opened a general appeal, inviting members of the public to contribute to the relief fund.

The IAC noted that its project budgets include an average administrative, operational, and oversight overhead allocation of 12.5 per cent.
