Police have arrested a 32‑year‑old Sri Lankan man in connection with the death of Bangladeshi worker Ameen Mia, who was reported missing before being found dead.

In a statement on Sunday, police said preliminary findings indicate that Ameen Mia died on the afternoon of January 26 after being struck by an excavator while clearing waste at a garbage dump site.

According to investigators, CCTV footage from the scene shows the excavator’s jaw hitting Ameen Mia, after which work at the site continued without interruption.

Police said the excavator operator was taken into custody under a court order as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have not released further details as the case remains under inquiry.
