COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Maldives High Commissioner Masood Imad joined fellow diplomats in Colombo this week to contribute to Sri Lanka’s recovery efforts following the recent cyclone, underscoring regional solidarity in the face of climate disaster.
Imad was among a group of envoys who collectively donated 3.6 million Sri Lankan rupees to the government’s “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” Fund, which provides relief to communities affected by the storm. The cheque was formally handed over to Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath by Dewi Gustina Tobing, Indonesia’s ambassador, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ceremony brought together representatives from several missions, including South Korea, Switzerland, Palestine, Oman and Italy. Their joint gesture was framed as a personal contribution, rather than an official allocation, highlighting the diplomats’ commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s recovery.
High Commissioner Imad’s presence at the event reflects the Maldives’ ongoing engagement with regional partners on climate resilience — a theme that resonates deeply across island nations confronting the realities of increasingly severe weather.
