The ruling People’s National Congress has opened applications for its ticket in the upcoming Hithadoo North by‑election, with the party setting 6pm on Sunday, 19 April as the deadline for interested candidates.
The party said applications must be submitted through its official website, and all required documents, including criminal and debt records, must also be filed with the Election Commission. Only candidates who meet the legal requirements for parliamentary elections will be eligible to contest the party primary.
Applicants must be registered members of the PNC or have formally applied for membership with the Election Commission. The party said that if more than one eligible candidate applies, the ticket will be decided through an internal primary scheduled for Saturday, 25 April, from 9am to 4pm.
Only PNC members registered with the Election Commission, and those who applied for party membership before 6pm on 13 April, will be eligible to vote in the primary. The party will publish the list of eligible voters on its website on Monday.
The by‑election follows the Supreme Court ruling that former MP Mohammed Sinaan lost his seat for failing to comply with a court‑ordered debt repayment. The Election Commission has set 6 June as polling day.
