MALE’, Maldives — A new chapter in Russia-Maldives cooperation unfolded on Monday as the Advanced Maternal and Child Health Training Seminar kicked off in the capital. The event, held at Dharumavantha Hospital, was inaugurated by the Consul General of Russia and senior officials from the Ministry of Health, marking a significant step in enhancing medical expertise between the two nations. The five-day program, which began today, brings together medical experts to strengthen neonatal, gynecological and pediatric care.
The training is conducted by a team of six Russian doctors, sharing their diverse expertise and experience with Maldives’ healthcare professionals. Attendees, including medical experts and hospital staff, participated in the opening session, which featured presentations and discussions led by the visiting delegation.
The Maldives has long been recognized for its progress in reducing maternal and child mortality, a success highlighted by the country’s sustained 98 percent childhood immunization coverage, according to UNICEF.
The collaboration with Russia aims to build on this foundation, offering advanced training to ensure continued improvements in healthcare delivery.
