The State Trading Organization has pledged that all newly designated essential food items will be available across the Maldives during the month of Ramadan. The government recently expanded the list of basic goods to include flour, sugar, ten types of vegetables, ten types of fruits and three additional food items.

STO has been tasked with importing the products and distributing them wholesale to the provinces. Officials said ensuring the availability of all 23 items is the company’s top priority as Ramadan approaches.

Communities with populations above 3,000 will also gain access to the goods through STO agents during the month. The company is preparing to open a new outlet in Hulhumale’ Phase 1, with plans to have it operating before Ramadan begins.

The government said the expanded list is intended to stabilize prices and guarantee supply during a period of high demand. STO officials noted that preparations are underway to prevent shortages and ensure consistent distribution nationwide.
