In a robust kickoff to the new year, the Maldives has witnessed an impressive surge in tourism, with over 200,000 visitors arriving in the country during the initial nine days, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism. The figures reveal that a total of 50,983 tourists have chosen the Maldives as their destination, signaling a substantial increase compared to the previous years.
This marks a significant upswing from last year’s numbers, where 47,731 tourists were recorded during the same period, and an even more pronounced growth from two years ago, with 43,079 arrivals. These statistics underscore a consistent and notable upward trend in the Maldives’ tourism industry.
On a daily basis, the country is experiencing an influx of more than 5,600 tourists, representing a commendable 6 percent increase from the corresponding period last year. This surge not only showcases the nation’s allure but also suggests a positive trajectory for sustained growth in the tourism sector throughout the year.
An intriguing aspect of the data is the prominence of Russian tourists, with 7,601 individuals from Russia contributing significantly to the overall surge. Russia has now positioned itself as the leading source of tourist arrivals, solidifying its role as a major player in shaping the Maldives’ tourism landscape.
