VELIDHOO, Maldives — President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu called on elected officials to set aside political differences and prioritize public service, emphasizing the need for professionalism and equity in governance. Speaking on Wednesday to an audience on Fohdhoo Island in Noonu Atoll, he underscored the responsibility of representatives to focus on the needs of their constituents.

“If you are an elected representative, political differences should not hinder serving the people,” President Muizzu said. “Everyone must work professionally and with responsibility.”

President Muizzu highlighted his administration’s cooperative efforts with members of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party, noting that their collaboration has been more constructive than that of the representative from the Velidhoo constituency. Without naming the lawmaker, he accused the Velidhoo MP of obstructing government initiatives, though he remained diplomatic about specifics.

Despite such challenges, President Muizzu reaffirmed his government’s commitment to delivering essential services and advancing development projects. “We will overcome all obstacles to ensure the best outcomes for our people,” he said during a shuttle trip across Noonu Atoll.
