President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu said today that he has not received a list from Maldives Airports Company of individuals who are being paid without working for the company.

At a press conference at the President’s Office, a journalist asked about a list circulating on social media that claimed to show 85 people receiving high salaries without reporting to work. President Muizzu responded briefly, saying, “I have not received such a list.”

The document circulating online was described as having been sent from the President’s Office to MACL, but the company has not commented on the matter.

President Muizzu said the government has instructed all state‑owned enterprises to review staff performance and reduce employee numbers where possible. “We have told all SOEs overall now through the finance ministry to reduce the number of employees, by one‑third wherever possible,” he said.

He said this review applies to all government companies, including MACL, and is part of a broader effort to improve efficiency and ensure public funds are used responsibly.
