Military and police personnel are set to receive new housing as the Ministry of Defence and the Maldives National Defence Force press ahead with a comprehensive reconstruction of the Bandeyri Koshi complex in Malé.
Preliminary work is now underway for the redevelopment of the Bandeyri Koshi 1 and 2 residential blocks, fulfilling a commitment announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Armed Forces Day. The project comes in response to mounting housing demand among active service personnel as the security forces continue to expand.
Bandeyri Koshi has long housed military and law enforcement families, but decades of continuous use have left the aging structures struggling to keep pace with the growing accommodation needs of personnel.
Authorities confirmed that the redevelopment will proceed in carefully managed phases to minimise disruption for resident families. The initial stage will focus on Bandeyri Koshi 1, with officials holding direct consultations with occupants to outline relocation plans before clearing the existing units. Once the new modern apartment towers are completed on the site, current residents will move directly into the new flats, allowing subsequent phases to proceed smoothly.
The project forms part of a broader government push to upgrade national security infrastructure and enhance living standards for service members, with the administration targeting full modernisation of the MNDF by 2040.
