MALÉ —  President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has given a firm guarantee that before the current administration’s five-year term concludes, all housing projects will be practically completed and their rightful owners handed the keys.

Speaking at the official ceremony held at the Social Centre to mark the 61st Independence Day of the Maldives, the President stated that this will be the first time in Maldivian history that a government successfully wraps up housing projects entirely within its tenure and delivers the properties to the public.

Addressing public skepticism surrounding announced housing initiatives, the President detailed the ongoing efforts to allocate plots previously issued from reef and lagoon areas by the preceding administration:

  • All land plots allocated from Hulhumalé Phase 2 have now been officially handed over.
  • Land reclamation work for Hulhumalé Phase 3 has been completed, and preparations are underway to hand over plots from that area.
  • The Rasmalé project stands as the government’s largest housing undertaking, with the President projecting that work will be finalised by the end of this year.
  • Land handover processes for Gulhifalhu are moving forward, while land reclamation operations in Giraavarufalhu are actively progressing and slated for total completion within the next two to three months.

Regarding the “Fahi Diriulhun” flat project initiated by the previous government, President Muizzu noted that only 25 percent of the work had been finished when the current administration took office. He confirmed that the project has since been completed and the flats are actively being handed over to their rightful recipients.

“Our hope and our assurance is that by the end of this term, housing projects will be practically completed and handed over to those who are entitled to them.” President

Under these overarching housing schemes, a total of 15,000 land plots are scheduled to be issued alongside the allocation of 7,800 flats across the Malé region.
