State fisheries firm Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has appointed veteran business executive Abdulla Faiz, M. Maanaage, as its new chairperson today.

Beyond corporate strategy, Faiz has long maintained a creative side, spending his post-retirement hours deeply immersed in his artwork. Those close to him know him as an avid visual artist who spent recent years focused on quiet creation, drawing inspiration from local nature and island life. Now, that cozy, carefree chapter came to a pause today when the nation called him back into action to steer the state-owned fisheries company.

With more than 30 years of experience across Maldivian business and tourism, Faiz brings deep commercial leadership to MIFCO. He previously served as chairman of Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), appointed on February 13, 2019, during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, and has also held the chairperson post at State Trading Organization (STO).

His career spans senior executive roles in both public and private enterprises, including Managing Director of ADK Trade and Shipping, Director to the Chairman at Villa Shipping and Trading, and Director of Marketing and Promotions at Villa Hotels. He also served as Secretary General of the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI), with additional leadership experience across hospitality, logistics, catering, and investment sectors.

Faiz is a key figure in the country’s business landscape, having co-founded the MNCCI, the Maldives Traders Association, the Maldives Association of Construction Industries (MACI), and the Restaurant Association of Maldives. Internationally, he has been a life member of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry since 2001, where he also served as Vice President.

Faiz holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Australian Institute of Business.
