EC chairman Mohammed Zahid resigns

Election Commission chairman Mohammed Zahid resigned from his post today. He has not yet given a specific reason for stepping down.

Zahid was appointed to the Commission in January last year and later served as its Vice‑President. He became chair in February this year.

Before joining the EC, Zahid held senior roles in other independent state institutions. He previously served as Vice‑President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives.
