MALE’, — As the Maldives and the United States commemorate the 60th anniversary of their formal diplomatic relations this year, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu received the United States Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, S. Paul Kapur, at the President’s Office this morning for a courtesy call and high-level discussions.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation across key sectors, with both sides reviewing the six-decade-long partnership and exploring avenues to further fortify these bilateral ties.
Assistant Secretary Kapur conveyed the United States’ interest in broadening engagement in areas of mutual interest, specifically highlighting economic development, increased investment, the tourism sector, and regional maritime security.
President Muizzu, in line with the “Maldives First” foreign policy, affirmed that the nation remains open to development initiatives that promise tangible benefits and support the government’s agenda to diversify the economy. The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
