National airline Maldivian has officially opened a new office in the Chinese capital, Beijing, as part of efforts to expand its international operations and strengthen its market presence in China.
The office was officially inaugurated on Sunday during a special ceremony attended by senior airline executives and the Maldivian Ambassador to China, Dr Fazeel Najeeb.
According to Maldivian, the new setup aims to support increased flight operations and improve services for passengers travelling between China and the Maldives. The carrier noted that the ground office will allow direct assistance to local customers and trade partners in the Chinese market.
“A new milestone for Maldivian in China,” the airline said in a statement. “We are proud to officially open our office in Beijing, strengthening our presence in China and bringing us closer to our valued partners and customers. This milestone marks another step towards building stronger partnerships, enhancing connectivity, and connecting more travellers between China and the Maldives.”
China currently stands as one of the top source markets for Maldivian tourism. Official figures show that 327,531 Chinese tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, accounting for 19 percent of all tourist arrivals.
Maldivian already operates direct flights to three Chinese cities using its Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
