Maldivian travelers heading to Thailand will soon enjoy up to 30 days of visa-free entry after the Thai government officially finalized an agreement to restore the extended stay.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the updated visa policy was gazetted on August 31 and will officially take effect on September 15.
The move comes after the Thai Cabinet introduced revisions in May that temporarily shortened the visa-free period for Maldivian nationals to 15 days. Addressing concerns from local travelers, Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam met with Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, in late June to request a review of the restriction.
Following those bilateral discussions, Thai authorities agreed on July 14 to reinstate the 30-day allowance.
Thailand remains a top destination for Maldivians seeking pleasure, medical care, business opportunities, and vacations. The restored 30-day policy is expected to lift travel hassles and offer far greater flexibility for locals visiting the country.
