President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed visited the Maldives High Commission and the Maldives Cultural Centre in Colombo on Tuesday, marking two key community‑focused engagements during the State Visit to Sri Lanka.
At the High Commission, the President and First Lady inaugurated the new National Identity Card and Electronic Passport issuance services. Officials described the upgrade as a step towards easing essential documentation for Maldivians living in Sri Lanka, many of whom have long relied on travel to Malé for renewals and replacements. The new services are expected to shorten processing times and reduce administrative burdens for students, families and long‑term residents.
The President later toured the Maldives Cultural Centre, where he reviewed the range of community services available to Maldivians in Colombo. Staff briefed him on education support, cultural programming, and assistance provided to Maldivian families navigating health, legal and consular matters. The visit formed part of a broader effort to strengthen institutional support for Maldivians abroad.
Both engagements took place alongside the wider State Visit agenda, which this week included the signing of seven agreements with Sri Lanka and a series of economic and cultural events marking 60 years of diplomatic relations.
Earlier in the day, the President and First Lady visited the Colombo National Museum, where they viewed key exhibits and received a briefing on Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage.
