State prosecutors have filed formal charges against former President’s Office staffer Eesha Ashraf, alleging she committed Qazf by providing information to an online news documentary.
The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed that Eesha, who previously held a political appointment at the President’s Office before being transferred and later dismissed from government service, was charged under the Penal Code. Prosecutors submitted the case to the Criminal Court following a police investigation. Eesha previously raised concerns during police questioning, stating investigators failed to provide her a fair opportunity to speak or present a proper defense.
The charge against Eesha follows parallel criminal proceedings against Adhadhu CEO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa and Editor Hassan Mohamed over the same video documentary. Appearing in the Criminal Court during closed-door proceedings, both Fiyaz and Hassan firmly denied the charges.
The Criminal Court has issued an injunction barring public commentary and reporting on the underlying video content while trial proceedings continue in camera.
