Former President Abdulla Yameen will have his sleeves rolled up to re-elect President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu when the 2028 presidential race rolls around, according to ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah.
Falah’s comments came after Yameen publicly stated at a People’s National Front (PNF) rally that he would pick President Muizzu over the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) “any time of the day.”
Responding to the statement on X, Falah wrote that there is zero doubt where Yameen’s support will go in 2028. He added that Yameen knows all too well that if MDP returns to power, they would put him right back in prison.
During last night’s PNF gathering, Yameen took harsh aim at the main opposition, directly comparing the current administration with former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s term.
“Any time of the day, any time of the year, I will choose Muizzu over MDP, you know,” Yameen told the crowd. “Over MDP, I will choose Muizzu.”
Yameen has previously insisted he holds no personal hatred towards President Muizzu and does not believe the President would treat him unfairly or cruelly.
