MALE’, Maldives — India strengthened its healthcare partnership with the Maldives on Friday during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day state visit, delivering two advanced portable hospital units and signing a bilateral agreement to harmonize pharmaceutical standards.
The Arogya Maitri Health Cubes, handed over to the Maldives Emergency Medical Service, are equipped with intensive care units, operation theatres, X-ray machines, and diagnostic tools, capable of treating 200 patients for 72 hours and deployable in just 12 minutes. The units enhance the Maldives’ emergency response capabilities, reinforcing India’s role in regional health infrastructure.
Concurrently, Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar exchanged a memorandum adopting the Indian Pharmacopoeia as the regulatory standard for medicines. The accord streamlines evaluation processes, provides access to affordable analytical resources, and aims to boost local pharmaceutical production, improving healthcare access across the island nation.
