Russian Ambassador Holds Talks with Chief of Defence Force in Malé

MALÉ, Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Levan Dzhagaryan met with Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Chief of Defence Force, during a working visit to Male’ on Thursday.

The meeting took place in a constructive and friendly atmosphere, focusing on issues of bilateral military and security cooperation, as well as prospects for further development of practical interaction between the defence structures of the two countries.

The Russian diplomatic mission emphasised that strengthening contacts in the defence sphere corresponds to the mutual interest of Moscow and Malé in ensuring stability and security in the Indian Ocean region.

The talks are regarded as another step in the consistent expansion of Russia-Maldives relations across various domains. In recent years the sides have demonstrated growing mutual interest in deepening multifaceted partnership, including in humanitarian, economic and security areas.

The Russian side reaffirmed its readiness to continue dialogue and implement joint initiatives aimed at reinforcing regional peace and countering common challenges.

The Embassy of Russia in Sri Lanka and concurrently accredited to the Maldives continues active work to promote bilateral ties in accordance with the instructions of the leadership of both states.
