The Maldives Zakat House has launched a new digital platform, the Fitr Portal, designed to make it easier for people to pay Zakat al‑Fitr ahead of the upcoming Ramadan.
According to Zakat House, the portal is intended to strengthen the existing system of accepting Zakat payments both through island councils and directly through the institution. The new platform will allow Zakat House to monitor cash transactions in real time, improving transparency and oversight.
Officials said the system will enable daily verification of the total amount of Fitr Zakat received through both online channels and cash payments.
Zakat House noted that the portal will help ensure the timely and equitable distribution of Zakat al‑Fitr to eligible recipients, in line with Islamic Shariah requirements that distribution be completed without delay at the end of Ramadan.
The institution said the digital upgrade is part of its broader effort to modernise Zakat collection and improve service delivery across the country.
