President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Mohammed Hussain Shareef as the Chief Government Spokesperson of the President’s Office at ministerial level, returning him to a role he is widely associated with.
Mohammed Hussain Shareef, long recognised as Mundhu in national politics, has held several senior posts over the past two decades, including Cabinet Minister and Ambassador to multiple countries. He previously served as Chief Government Spokesperson from 2005 to 2007 and later as Presidential Spokesperson, a period during which he became a central figure in shaping government communication.
He most recently completed his term as Maldives’ Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
Before his diplomatic posting, Shareef worked closely with Hill & Knowlton during the period when the strategic communications unit at the President’s Office was formulated, a process in which he became a central figure. He has since remained closely involved in managing the office’s communications work.
