The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken a statement from former Controller General of Immigration Shamaan Waheed inside prison, where he is currently serving a 25-year sentence over corruption and money laundering charges.
Shamaan was handed the 25-year prison sentence by the Criminal Court in June after being found guilty on three state charges, including money laundering.
Before entering the courtroom for his sentencing hearing in June, the former immigration chief made serious corruption allegations against Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan. Shamaan claimed Ihusaan played a leading role in framing him and accused the minister of running corrupt schemes involving expatriate quotas. He further alleged that he had shared evidence of these dealings with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, claiming the proof was stored on his phone.
While the ACC confirmed that investigators questioned Shamaan and recorded his statement regarding an active inquiry, the watchdog did not disclose whether the probe directly targets the allegations leveled against Minister Ihusaan. An ACC media official stated only that Shamaan was summoned to provide an information statement for an ongoing case under investigation.
