Met Office Warns of Rough Weather as Western Monsoon Begins

The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast mostly cloudy skies and thundershowers across parts of the country over the next 24 hours, with rough seas expected as the western monsoon gets under way.

Winds are forecast at 13 to 23 mph across the southern atolls, with westerly and northwesterly winds elsewhere. Gusts of up to 45 mph are possible. Wave heights are expected to range between four and seven feet.

Male’ recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours at 49.7 millimetres.

The Met Office has urged the public, particularly those at sea, to remain vigilant during the monsoon transition.
