MALE’— President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to form two high-level advisory bodies to guide government policy, including a comprehensive national council that will draw on the expertise of up to 150 specialists across diverse fields.
The President first revealed the initiative during his official address on Independence Day before expanding on the details during an appearance on the state broadcast programme Nation Chat.
Under the proposed structure, the executive branch will consult two distinct consultative bodies: a smaller advisory panel made up of long-serving statesmen and public servants, alongside a larger national council comprising technical experts and specialists. The broader advisory body is expected to house between 100 and 150 members.
The overarching aim, according to President Muizzu, is to embed systematic expert consultation into national decision-making.
“The purpose of this is to establish a national advisory council composed of the most educated and experienced professionals, offering a structured platform to debate, deliberate, and present recommendations on critical national matters,” the President said.
Administrative frameworks and formal documentation for both panels are slated for completion within the next three months. President Muizzu expressed confidence that both consultative councils would be officially established and operational by November 2026.
