The Maldives National University (MNU) officially opened its annual book fair yesterday, with Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed inaugurating the event during a special ceremony held at the university campus.
During the ceremony, Minister Dr. Shaheem launched new publications funded through the MNU Book Writing Grant before touring the various exhibition stalls to inspect the displays and engage with participants.
The MNU Book Fair serves as a central marketplace bringing together local authors, publishers, booksellers, and readers under one roof. The event gives Maldivian writers an active platform to showcase works published across various languages and reach a wider reading public.
According to MNU, the fair aims to help local authors demonstrate their creative talent and provide an accessible environment to highlight previously unpublished books and educational resources.
University officials noted that the event is designed to foster a stronger reading culture across the community, encouraging long-term engagement with literature among the public.
