Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have crossed the 1.5 million mark this year, reaching 1,520,000 as of yesterday, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism.

While the current numbers show a clear increase compared to the same period in 2024, total arrivals remain down by 3.6 percent when evaluated against the strong performance seen during the matching timeframe last year.

China continues to lead as the top source market for Maldivian tourism, generating 278,605 visitors so far this year. Russia sits in second place with 217,889 arrivals, while the United Kingdom ranks third with 114,735 tourists. Italy and Germany round out the top five source markets, contributing 95,164 and 92,284 visitors respectively.

Monthly breakdowns indicate that February recorded the highest volume of inbound travel so far, bringing 254,556 tourists to the country. Momentum has continued into this month, with over 60,000 tourist arrivals registered within the first two weeks alone.

The government maintains a target of welcoming 2.3 million tourists by the end of the year.
