The Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract to a Chinese engineering firm to construct a 15-storey integrated accommodation and logistics complex at the Kalhuthukkalaa Koshi military barracks in Malé, officials announced on Monday.
The ministry said the project aligns with commitments made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his Presidential Address earlier this year to bolster the operational readiness and infrastructure of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
According to the MNDF, the development represents the largest infrastructure project in the history of the Maldivian military, designed to expand operational capabilities by fulfilling vital housing and logistical requirements.

The agreement was formally signed during a ceremony at the Bandaara Koshi military headquarters on Monday morning. State Minister of Defence Fathimath Mizna Ali signed on behalf of the ministry, while Managing Director Joe Weidong signed on behalf of China’s Rotime Engineering & Technology Corporation Limited.
Under the design-and-build agreement, the Chinese contractor has been tasked with completing the 15-storey complex within a two-year timeframe.
The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Defence Hassan Rasheed, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas, along with senior general officers of the military, officials from the Defence Ministry, and executives from Rotime Engineering.
