In response to concerns about Maldivian citizens traveling to conflict zones, the Fiqh Academy of Maldives has issued a fatwa, declaring it impermissible to journey to Islamic countries under the guise of jihad. The academy, having noted instances of Maldivians reportedly engaging in such activities, aims to deter citizens from participating in conflicts abroad.
The fatwa emphasizes that wars in Islamic countries are part of a broader strategy to destabilize and harm Muslim nations. The Fiqh Academy warns that participating in conflicts like those in Syria, under the pretext of jihad, can inadvertently expose Islamic nations to external interference and manipulation by their adversaries.
Citing Islamic teachings, the Fiqh Academy advocates an alternative approach, aligning with the guidance of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The academy encourages prayer for those affected by conflicts, urging patience and emphasizing efforts toward fostering unity within the Muslim Ummah.
This fatwa reflects the Fiqh Academy’s commitment to maintaining religious harmony and discouraging activities that may contribute to the destabilization of Islamic countries, promoting a peaceful and unified Muslim community.
