Maldives’ High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Iruthisham Adam, has completed her farewell duties in London, expressing gratitude to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for the opportunity to serve in a post she described as personally meaningful.
In a message shared on social media, Iruthisham said she was honoured to strengthen ties with one of Maldives’ key bilateral partners. London, she noted, held particular significance as she had studied there as both a Chevening and Commonwealth Scholar and later returned for her first diplomatic posting.
Iruthisham, a career diplomat, has now been appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. Her new role places her at the centre of the administration’s foreign policy, overseeing bilateral and multilateral engagement, guiding diplomatic missions abroad and shaping the country’s external strategy under President Muizzu’s government.
She said she had been privileged to work among “high calibre diplomats” during her time in the UK and valued the friendships and experience gained throughout her posting. She also thanked her family for their support as she transitions into her new ministerial responsibilities.
