MALE ‘— Maldives Ports Limited has reopened bidding for consultants to carry out an environmental impact assessment and bathymetric survey for the planned development of Thilafushi port.
The work covers phase two of the Thilafushi reclaimed area, where MPL plans to build berths for international and domestic vessels, along with modern cargo handling facilities. The proposed infrastructure includes a deep-water quay wall, a 650-metre inner quay wall, a perishable goods terminal, container yards, administrative buildings, a drainage system and dredging works.
The appointed consultant will be required to establish a baseline environmental assessment, evaluate the project’s potential impacts and draw up a mitigation plan. The terms of reference also require consultation with the Maldives Marine Research Institute, HDC, NDMA, fishing communities and the tourism sector, as well as a public meeting. A detailed bathymetric survey to support dredging and channel design must also be completed.
The tender is open to both local and international firms. Registration closes at 2pm on 16 June, and bids must be submitted by 11am on 18 June at MPL’s head office. Bidders must have at least five years of relevant experience.
