The Maldives Police Service logged 924 cases in September, with petty theft and property crimes making up nearly a third of all reported offenses across the country, according to fresh data released by law enforcement.
Theft led the monthly crime tally with 277 separate cases, accounting for roughly 30 per cent of all incidents handled by officers. Road traffic accidents marked the second highest category with 222 reported incidents, while drug-related offenses ranked third at 165 cases.

- Property Damage: 57 cases
- Assault: 49 cases
- Embezzlement: 30 cases
- Domestic Violence: 23 cases
- Sexual Offenses: 14 cases
- Fraud: 9 cases
- Robbery: 9 cases
So far this year, law enforcement has logged 9,454 complaints. Monthly cases averaged over 1,000 during the first four months of the year before crime rates leveled off over the summer. Year-to-date totals show 2,610 theft complaints and 2,273 traffic accidents logged nationwide.
Overall filings fell compared to September last year, when police recorded 1,142 cases. Both theft and drug offenses saw a slight drop year-on-year. Police said officers are continuing targeted operations to tackle street-level property crime, drug supply, and traffic safety across the islands.
